PROJECT OVERVIEW

MyAfroDNA Teams up with Dr. Ureh Oparaodu to Explore Genetic Drivers of Hearing Loss in Southern Nigeria

Two months ago, on World Hearing Day, MyAfroDNA forged a dynamic partnership with Dr. Ureh Oparaodu, Head of Department ENT Surgery at Rivers State University Teaching Hospital Port Harcourt. hashtagRSUTH and Rivers State Coordinator for the Oto-rhino-Laryngological Society of Nigeria (ORLSON). This collaboration signifies a significant step forward in our mission to uncover the genetic underpinnings of various diseases affecting Africans.

Challenge & Solution

Pooling our resources, expertise, and shared passion for improving healthcare outcomes, we believe our collaboration with Dr. Ureh holds immense potential to yield valuable insights that could benefit deaf individuals and their families in Southern Nigeria and beyond. Leveraging cutting-edge genetic technologies and community-based approaches, we aim to identify genetic markers associated with hearing loss and develop targeted interventions tailored to the unique needs of affected individuals. Dr. Ureh’s project goals align with the Siminalayi Fubara’s Government and the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh‘s, commitment to improving health outcomes in Rivers State.

At MyAfroDNA, our vision is to empower individuals and communities by offering access to personalized genetic insights that inform healthcare decisions and enhance quality of life. While we focus on hearing loss for this collaboration, our mission encompasses a broader spectrum of diseases and conditions affecting African populations. Our commitment extends beyond regional boundaries, as we strive to address the healthcare needs of underrepresented communities across the African continent. Through inclusive and collaborative efforts, we aspire to create a lasting impact and promote equitable access to healthcare for all.

Stay tuned as we bring on more news about our research endeavors.
